HUGGINS MUST GO!!!
Well, to my knowledge, I believe this is his first OWI arrest. ANd since I believe this is one of the most over-legislated areas ever, I say let him serve his punishment and then return to life as is. UC should not fire him based on the arrest (if they're unhappy with the basketball team, that's one thing). Especially considering half their faculty has smoked 1/2 of Colombia over the years.
What Jumper said. It's not his first. They just caught him this time.
Years and years and years ago, while working for a former football player and UC Alum, I had the misfortune to meet Mr. Huggins.
Some folks just need killin.
Wow. Gae and I are on the same page on something. I only had one opportunity to interact, well witness an interaction, with Mr. Huggins and it wasn't pretty.
He jumped down the throat of some unfortunate student when they were doing interviews of students in the commons and had the temerity to ask him if he wanted to say a few words as he was passing by. He reamed them up one side and down the other for no reason at all. Major jackass.
Hope he's fired and can't find a position anywhere.
Huggins is a prima donna whos coaching methodology has shown mediocre results at best. You can have all the 26-3 records in the world. If you keep getting bounced in the first or second round of The Dance then that speaks for itself. Huggins is from the Bobby Knight school of coaching. The louder you yell and humiliate a player the better they will be. Sure...
Huggins Must GO!!!!
This is more than just a DWI...
This is a 50 year old with two degrees who mentors 18 year olds. He is constantly in the spotlight for the indiscretions of his players. He knows better. If anyone should know better, it's Huggins.
He wasn't just tipsy. He was flat stinkin' drunk. In other words, this was more than just a poor judgment call, something we've all done. This was a blatant disregard for others and for himself.
This made news on a national day of mourning, and just two weeks after the inauguration of the new president of the university.
This president has just spent the last 6 months formulating an academic master plan, involving hundreds of people in the university community. She has tirelessly promoted the university, and stated ambitious goals for making UC a top 50 school. I'm sure one of her goals wasn't dealing with a drunken basketball coach whose players consistently drag down the reputation of the school.
If you think Huggins doesn't have a profound impact on UC's overall reputation, all you have to do is look at Bobby Knight and IU. I have a friend in PR at IU, and they couldn't stand him. When people think of IU, they think of Bobby Knight, not their carefully crafted slogan from their image campaign, "Quality Education, Lifetime Opportunities." Bob Huggins is our Bobby Knight.
I personally have gotten two recent phone calls from people out of state on this issue - one from a friend in LA, and another from the Tampa area. Everytime one of UC's players does something stupid, I get another call from another place. I've got the map covered: Chicago, Minneapolis, Memphis, Charlotte, etc.
I'm sick of Huggins tainting my degree. Time for him to go. He's had his second chance.

The one in LA (actually Port Hueneme, but soon to be Pensacola, then San Diego, then Jacksonville) is a childhood friend of mine who is in the navy.Quote:

so you have 1 friend who calls you from different cities every time the BearCats are involved in something stupid? You must get called a lot.
Evidently I'm in the minority on this one, but that's ok, if I feel I'm being discriminated against because I'm a minority I'll launch a civil rights lawsuit in Judge Spiegel's courtroom, with Scott Greenwood and Alphonse Gerhardstein as my attorneys.
If Huggs had caused a wreck and injured someone, fine. But he didn't and I say he derserves a second chance. And sorry, Gae, you know I think you're beautiful but I must disagree with you here, even if this is the fist time he got caught, it is his first DUI.
And I think Jumper's bias betrays him here; I'm not sure he'd be posting like he has if Huggs had led UC to a title in the past few years.
